BMW Motorrad has introduced the 2026 edition of its flagship supernaked, the S 1000 R, in India with prices starting at ₹19.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The latest model brings sharper styling, added equipment, and a small performance bump while retaining the aggressive character that defines the S 1000 range.
Design and Weight
The most striking change is at the front. The S 1000 R now sports a split-headlight setup, similar to the S 1000 RR supersport, replacing the single vertical lamp of the previous model. This redesign gives the bike a more athletic, purpose-built appearance.
Kerb weight is 199kg, but with the optional M Sport Package, weight drops to 196kg thanks to a lightweight exhaust, forged wheels, endurance chain, and a smaller battery. A 16.5-litre fuel tank remains standard across variants.
Engine and Performance
Power comes from the familiar 999cc, inline-four, liquid-cooled engine, which now delivers 170hp at 11,000rpm and 114Nm at 9,250rpm—a 5hp gain over its predecessor. Paired with a 6-speed gearbox, BMW claims the S 1000 R can sprint from 0-100kph in just 3.2 seconds, before hitting an electronically limited top speed of 250kph.

M Quick Action throttle

Pricing and Competition
At ₹19.90 lakh, the BMW S 1000 R sits in a competitive niche of high-performance nakeds. It undercuts the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS (₹20.39 lakh) and the Ducati Streetfighter V4 (₹24.62 lakh), while being positioned above the Honda CB1000 Hornet SP (₹12.36 lakh). BMW has clarified that this is an introductory price, which is expected to rise later.
