Yamaha has officially launched the MT-03 in the Indian market, priced at Rs 4.60 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Noteworthy is the fact that the MT-03 is introduced as a completely built-up (CBU) import from Indonesia. Accompanying the MT-03, Yamaha also unveiled the R3 on the same day.
Drawing design inspiration from the popular Yamaha MT-15, the MT-03 boasts an aggressive front fascia, though the overall bodywork exhibits a larger and more muscular profile. Weighing a modest 167kg and featuring a manageable seat height of 780mm, the MT-03 promises a nimble and lightweight riding experience.
Under the hood, the MT-03 mirrors its faired counterpart, the R3, with a parallel-twin 321cc motor generating 42hp and 29.5Nm of torque. Equipped with a USD fork, the bike shares identical components with the R3, encompassing the chassis and subframe. In terms of features, the MT-03 embraces simplicity, offering essentials such as dual-channel ABS and an LCD instrument console. Its direct competitor in the market, in terms of purpose and performance, is the KTM Duke 390, which is priced at Rs 3.1 lakh. Notably, the MT-03 stands as the sole twin-cylinder street naked bike in its segment in India at present. However, the landscape may evolve with Aprilia purportedly working on a naked iteration of the recently launched RS 457, potentially introducing more diversity to this motorcycle category in the future.
