Volvo is preparing to significantly expand its electric vehicle portfolio in India in 2026 with the introduction of two flagship EVs – the EX90 electric SUV and the ES90 electric sedan. Both models are already on sale in global markets and will represent the brand’s most advanced electric offerings when they arrive in India.
After updating its combustion lineup in 2025 with facelifts for the XC90 and XC60, along with the launch of the compact EX30 electric SUV, Volvo’s focus now shifts firmly to premium, long-range EVs. The EX90 and ES90 are expected to be positioned at the top of Volvo’s Indian lineup, showcasing next-generation battery technology, software-led features and advanced safety systems.
Both EVs are likely to share a common high-capacity battery pack and are expected to be launched by the third quarter of 2026.
Volvo EX90 Electric SUV
Expected launch: By Q3 2026
Estimated price: Rs 1.5 crore (ex-showroom)
Battery options: 92kWh to 106kWh
The Volvo EX90 will serve as the brand’s electric flagship SUV in India. Built on Volvo’s new SPA2 platform, it introduces an 800V electrical architecture, enabling faster charging and improved efficiency compared to current-generation EVs.
Globally, the EX90 is offered with multiple powertrain options, including a single-motor rear-wheel-drive version and dual-motor all-wheel-drive setups, with range figures extending beyond 600km (WLTP). Which specific variant Volvo India will bring remains unconfirmed.
Design-wise, the EX90 follows Volvo’s clean and restrained styling philosophy, with signature ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED headlamps, smooth surfacing and a closed-off grille. Inside, the SUV adopts a minimalist layout dominated by a large touchscreen interface and sustainable materials.
On the safety front, the EX90 is equipped with Level 2 ADAS as standard, while its advanced sensor suite – including roof-mounted LiDAR – is capable of supporting higher levels of autonomous driving as regulations evolve.
Volvo ES90 Electric Sedan
Expected launch: By Q3 2026
Estimated price: Rs 1.2 crore (ex-showroom)
Battery options: 92kWh to 106kWh
Joining the EX90 will be the Volvo ES90, the brand’s all-electric luxury sedan aimed at rivals like the BMW i5. Like the SUV, the ES90 is underpinned by the SPA2 platform and features an 800V system that supports ultra-fast DC charging speeds of up to 350kW, allowing roughly 300km of range to be added in about 10 minutes under ideal conditions.
The larger 106kWh battery pack delivers a WLTP-certified range of around 700km, making it one of the longest-range electric sedans expected for India.
Styling elements closely mirror the EX90, including the familiar Volvo LED lighting signature, aerodynamic bodywork, a sealed grille and a prominent roof-mounted LiDAR module. The cabin is tech-heavy yet uncluttered, featuring a 14.5-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen, 5G connectivity, over-the-air updates and a premium Bowers & Wilkins 25-speaker audio system.
Boot space stands at 424 litres, which can be expanded to 733 litres with the rear seats folded, adding a layer of practicality uncommon in luxury electric sedans.
What to Expect from Volvo in 2026
With the EX90 and ES90, Volvo is set to underline its long-term commitment to electrification in India. These two models will not only become Volvo’s most expensive and technologically advanced offerings in the country but will also act as halo products for the brand’s EV strategy.
All prices mentioned are estimated ex-showroom figures for India.
