Hyundai has given a sneak peek of the upcoming i20 facelift ahead of its launch in India. This refreshed version follows the global debut of the i20 just four months ago, marking a relatively quick mid-life cycle update since the current-generation i20 was introduced in November 2020. While the changes are primarily cosmetic, they bring a fresh look to this popular hatchback.
Exterior Updates
The facelift focuses on soft plastic parts with subtle alterations to both the front and rear. The grille has undergone slight tweaks, and the front bumper now features two prominent arrow-shaped inlets on each side, creating a wider-looking chin with a contrasting black finish on the lower part. The teaser image also reveals new headlamps, likely full-LED units.
Furthermore, Hyundai is repositioning its logo from the grille to the base of the bonnet, featuring a new 2D design. Rear changes include a more pronounced faux rear diffuser, repositioned reflectors, and an enhanced dual-tone finish for the rear bumper. The i20 might also receive new alloy wheel options and additional paint colors.
Interior Updates
While the interior design remains largely unchanged, expect important feature upgrades. Hyundai may introduce the dual-dashcam, seen on several of its models, and an updated digital instrument cluster. In Europe, the i20 comes equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), so there’s a possibility of these features making their way to the Indian version, making it the only hatchback in India equipped with ADAS.
Powertrain
The i20 facelift is anticipated to retain its current mechanical configuration. This means it will continue to offer the 83hp 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine and the 120hp 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. Transmission options include manual and CVT for the former and iMT and DCT gearboxes for the latter. The sportier i20 N Line will also receive updates in due course.
Upon its launch, the i20 facelift will compete with rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza, and Tata Altroz. Stay tuned for more information on its launch and booking details in the coming days.
