Upcoming Car and SUV Launches in August 2024

August 2024 will see a plethora of new car and SUV launches, spanning both mass-market and luxury segments. Here’s a rundown of the exciting new vehicles hitting the market next month.

Nissan X-Trail

Nissan India is set to double its portfolio with the launch of the flagship X-Trail SUV on August 1. Competing against the Jeep Meridian, MG Gloster, Skoda Kodiaq, and Toyota Fortuner, this 7-seater SUV will be brought in as a Completely Built Unit (CBU). It features a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with variable compression, producing 163hp and 300Nm of torque. Power is delivered to the front wheels via a CVT automatic gearbox. Expected prices range from Rs 40 lakh to Rs 45 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Curvv

Tata Motors will introduce the Curvv in India on August 7. This coupe-SUV is positioned as an alternative to midsize SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. It will be available with three engine options: a 120hp 1.2-litre turbo-petrol, a 115hp 1.5-litre diesel, and a new 125hp, 225Nm 1.2-litre three-cylinder direct-injection turbo-petrol. A dual-clutch automatic transmission will be offered across all engines.

Tata Curvv EV

The Curvv will also have an all-electric version, featuring two battery options: a new 55kWh unit and the 40.5kWh unit from the Nexon LR. The Curvv EV is expected to offer a range of up to 550km and will share features with its petrol counterpart, including a 12.3-inch touchscreen, fully digital driver’s display, powered tailgate with gesture function, panoramic sunroof, reclining rear seat, ventilated front seats, and ADAS Level 2.

Mahindra Thar Roxx

The Mahindra Thar 5-door, named the Thar Roxx, will launch on August 15. It will feature a longer wheelbase, extra doors, and several new features compared to the 3-door variant. These include a 10.25-inch touchscreen, fully digital instrument cluster, LED projector headlamps, a 360-degree camera, and ADAS. Existing engine options from the Thar 3-door will be retained but may be offered in a higher state of tune.

Citroen Basalt

Joining the coupe-SUV segment, the Citroen Basalt will make its global debut on August 2, with a launch following soon after. It will feature the same dashboard as the C3 Aircross but add amenities like auto climate control with toggle switches, contoured rear headrests, and a larger front armrest with storage. It will be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine generating 110hp and 205Nm of torque, with both manual and automatic transmission options.

Mercedes GLC 43 4Matic Coupe

The Mercedes GLC 43 4Matic Coupe, unveiled last September, will finally arrive in India on August 8. It boasts a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology, producing 421hp and 500Nm of torque, enabling a 0-100kph sprint in 4.7 seconds. With AMG design elements both inside and out, the GLC 43 4Matic Coupe is expected to be priced above Rs 1 crore.

Mercedes CLE Cabriolet

Launching alongside the GLC 43 4Matic Coupe on August 8, the Mercedes CLE Cabriolet will arrive as a fully imported model with standard 2+2 seating. While the specific powertrain for India is unconfirmed, the international versions start with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine in various states of tune. Prices are anticipated to exceed Rs 1 crore.

Lamborghini Urus SE

The Lamborghini Urus SE, set to launch in India on August 9, features updated styling and a new 12.3-inch central touchscreen, redesigned dashboard panels, and AC vents. It is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine paired with a plug-in hybrid system, delivering a total output of 800hp and 950Nm of torque.
