TVS Jupiter Scooters Surpass 6.7 Million Sales Since 2013 Launch

TVS Jupiter Scooters Surpass 6.7 Million Sales Since 2013 Launch

Since its debut in September 2013, the TVS Jupiter scooter has become a cornerstone of TVS Motor Co.’s two-wheeler lineup, achieving a remarkable milestone with over 6.7 million units sold in the domestic market as of July 2024. Initially launched as a 110cc model, the Jupiter family expanded in 2021 with the introduction of a 125cc variant, further solidifying its popularity.

As TVS Motor’s best-selling product, the Jupiter has consistently dominated the company’s sales charts. In FY2024, it set a new record with 844,863 units sold, surpassing its previous best of 810,916 units in FY2018. This performance outpaced other models in the TVS lineup, including the Raider 125 (478,443 units), XL100 moped (481,803 units), Apache range (378,112 units), and Ntorq 125 (331,865 units).

In the first four months of FY2025, TVS has already dispatched 299,687 Jupiter scooters to showrooms nationwide, marking a 21 percent increase from 247,972 units during the same period last year. Once again, the Jupiter remains well ahead of its TVS siblings, with sales figures of 149,617 units for the Ntorq, 142,744 units for the Raider, 151,269 units for the Apache, and 160,278 units for the XL100 moped. Additionally, TVS has exported over 80,000 Jupiter scooters since its launch.

Riding Towards the Seven Million Milestone

The Jupiter has consistently challenged its closest competitor, the Honda Activa, India’s best-selling scooter. In June 2023, the Jupiter surpassed the 3 million sales mark and recorded 2.25 million units sold in FY2024 alone.

The Jupiter’s sales trajectory has been impressive, crossing the 500,000 unit mark within two years of its launch, reaching 1 million in 2016, and doubling to 2 million in 2017. It achieved the 4 million milestone early in FY2021 and hit 5 million in 2022, prompting the release of the special Jupiter 110 Classic edition to celebrate. Most recently, the Jupiter reached 6 million sales in October 2023, with the 7 million mark clearly within sight.

Powering TVS to a 25% Market Share

Over the past 11 years, the Jupiter has played a crucial role in bolstering TVS’s presence in India’s scooter market. The brand’s scooter market share rose from 12.68 percent in FY2014 to 15.19 percent in FY2015, and further to 16.36 percent in FY2018, coinciding with the introduction of the sporty TVS Ntorq 125. Since then, the Jupiter-Ntorq combination has propelled TVS’s market share to 25 percent, second only to Honda’s 43 percent in FY2024.

TVS’s overall scooter sales underscore the Jupiter’s significance, with the model accounting for 6.73 million of the 10.8 million scooters sold by TVS from FY2014 through July 2024—a substantial 62 percent contribution. In the April-July 2024 period alone, TVS sold 519,532 scooters, capturing a 23.41 percent market share, with the Jupiter leading the charge.

As the Jupiter approaches its 11th anniversary, it remains a driving force behind TVS’s success, continuing to set new benchmarks in the competitive Indian scooter market.
