Triumph Motorcycles has expanded its small-capacity portfolio in India with the launch of the all-new Tracker 400, priced at Rs 2.46 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Positioned between the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400, the Tracker introduces a distinctive flat-track-inspired design along with a newly downsized engine tailored specifically for the Indian market.
New 349cc Engine Developed for India
One of the biggest highlights of the Tracker 400 is its new 349cc engine, derived from the earlier 398cc platform. Triumph has reduced the displacement by shortening the stroke while retaining the bore, allowing the motorcycle to qualify for a lower 18 percent GST bracket instead of 40 percent—making it more cost-effective.
Despite the reduced displacement, the Tracker 400 delivers a strong performance output of 40hp and 32Nm of torque, matching the tune of the Thruxton 400. This makes it more powerful than the Speed 400 and Scrambler 400, which produce 37hp. Peak power also arrives slightly higher in the rev range, enhancing its sporty character. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox for smooth power delivery.
Flat-Track Styling Sets It Apart
The Tracker 400 brings a fresh design language to Triumph’s lineup with clear inspiration from flat-track racing. It features a minimalist and aggressive stance, highlighted by:
- A boxy fuel tank
- Flyscreen and number-board-style side panels
- Colour-coded seat cowl
- Slim tail section with a rectangular LED tail-light
The rear design shares elements with the Thruxton 400, giving it a cohesive retro-modern appeal.
Hardware and Cycle Parts
Built for road-focused performance, the Tracker 400 rides on 17-inch wheels at both ends, wrapped in MRF REVZ FD1 tyres. Suspension duties are handled by USD front forks and a rear monoshock, similar to most bikes in Triumph’s 400cc lineup.
Weighing 181kg, the Tracker 400 is slightly heavier than the latest Speed 400 by around 2kg, but still maintains a balanced and agile setup.
Variants, Colours and Pricing
Triumph is offering the Tracker 400 in three striking colour options:
- White with red accents
- Yellow with black accents
- Black with red accents
At Rs 2.46 lakh, the Tracker 400 is priced Rs 14,000 higher than the Speed 400 and Rs 14,000 lower than the Scrambler 400, positioning it as a stylish middle-ground option in the lineup.
Final Thoughts
With its unique flat-track design, more powerful engine tune, and competitive pricing, the Triumph Tracker 400 aims to attract riders looking for a distinctive roadster that blends retro aesthetics with modern performance.
