Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Set for India Launch by Late 2025

Toyota’s latest-generation Land Cruiser Prado, which made its global debut last year, is expected to arrive in India in the second half of 2025, according to Autocar India. Sold under the Land Cruiser 250 nameplate in select markets, this flagship SUV is gradually being rolled out worldwide. While North America and the UK receive the Prado due to the absence of the full-size Land Cruiser 300, India, like Australia and the Middle East, will continue to offer both the Prado and the LC300 models.

Internally known as the JC250, the new Land Cruiser Prado boasts significant advancements in both on-road and off-road capabilities. The SUV retains its ladder-frame architecture, with Toyota claiming a 50% increase in chassis rigidity over its predecessor and a 30% stiffer body-on-frame assembly.

In terms of size, the new Prado stretches to 4,920mm in length, 1,870mm in height, and features a 2,850mm wheelbase, offering more space and comfort than its predecessor. The redesigned cabin is packed with cutting-edge features, including chunky physical controls, a multi-zone climate control system, plush leather upholstery, and a wraparound digital display housing a next-gen infotainment system. The Prado’s feature-rich interior positions it as a direct competitor to the Land Rover Defender in global markets.

Toyota has focused heavily on the Prado’s off-road performance, introducing enhancements such as improved wheel articulation, an upgraded Multi-Terrain Monitor interface, and refined off-road driving modes. Notably, the SUV features a dashboard-operated switch for disconnecting the front anti-roll bar, allowing for maximum wheel articulation on demanding terrains.

Powertrain Options

For markets including Europe, Japan, the Middle East, and Australia, the Prado is powered by the same 2.8-litre diesel engine found in India’s Toyota Fortuner. By 2025, this engine will be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a 48V mild-hybrid (MHEV) system, which Toyota is currently testing with the Hilux.

Meanwhile, in regions such as North America and the Middle East, the SUV is available with a 2.4-litre petrol engine coupled with a hybrid powertrain—an engine that powers several Toyota and Lexus models worldwide.

The India-bound Land Cruiser Prado will be introduced as a completely built-up unit (CBU), similar to the LC300. Further details are expected to emerge as the launch date approaches.
