Toyota Hyryder Crosses 1 Lakh Sales Milestone in India

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the second rebadged Maruti model in Toyota’s lineup to surpass 1,00,000 units in wholesale sales in India. This milestone was reached in September 2024, just two years after the SUV’s launch in September 2022. By the end of October, total dispatches stood at 1,07,975 units.

Hyryder’s Contribution to Toyota’s UV Sales

From April to October 2024, the Hyryder accounted for approximately 25% of Toyota’s total utility vehicle (UV) sales, which amounted to 1,47,351 units. The midsize SUV ranked sixth in its segment for FY2024 and secured the 19th spot in overall UV sales during the first half of FY2025.

To leverage festive season demand, Toyota introduced a special Hyryder Festival Limited Edition in October, adding further momentum to the SUV’s sales trajectory.

Year-on-Year Growth and Market Standing

Toyota’s dispatches of the Hyryder have seen consistent growth:

  • FY2023: 22,839 units
  • FY2024: 48,916 units (a 114% YoY growth)
  • FY2025 (April-October): 36,220 units (a 52% YoY growth)

In a highly competitive segment, the Hyryder holds its ground against rivals like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and Mahindra’s Bolero range and Thar.

India’s Bestselling Rebadged Model

The Hyryder’s success highlights the benefits of Toyota’s product-sharing agreement with Suzuki. Currently, four rebadged Maruti models are sold under the Toyota brand in India:

  • Urban Cruiser Hyryder (based on the Maruti Grand Vitara)
  • Glanza (based on the Maruti Baleno)
  • Rumion (based on the Maruti Ertiga)
  • Urban Cruiser Taisor (based on the Maruti Fronx)

From April to October 2024, these rebadged models collectively contributed 95,266 units, representing 53% of Toyota’s total passenger vehicle sales of 1,78,372 units—a 31% year-on-year growth. Among these, the Hyryder emerged as the top performer with 36,220 units, surpassing the Glanza by 6,226 units in FY2025’s first seven months.
