Tata Punch EV Secures 5-Star Rating in Bharat NCAP Crash Tests

The Tata Punch EV has achieved a 5-star rating in the Bharat NCAP crash tests for both adult occupant protection (AOP) and child occupant protection (COP). Tested in April 2024, these results apply to all variants of the Punch EV.

Bharat NCAP Crash Test Results for Tata Punch EV

In the AOP category, the Punch EV scored an impressive 31.46 out of 32 points. Specifically, it achieved 14.26/16 in the frontal offset deformable barrier test and 15.6/16 in the side movable deformable barrier test. The SUV provided good to adequate protection for adult crash test dummies in both scenarios.

For COP, the Punch EV received 45 out of 49 points. This includes 23.95 out of 24 in dynamic tests, a perfect score of 12 out of 12 in the child seat restraint (CRS) segment, and 9 out of 13 in vehicle assessment. Standard safety features across all variants of the Punch EV include six airbags, ABS, ESC, three-point seat belts for all seats, and ISOFIX mounts.

Comparison with Other Models

With these scores, the Tata Punch EV is currently the highest-rated car by Bharat NCAP. While other Tata models such as the Nexon EV, Harrier, and Safari also hold 5-star ratings, their scores are slightly lower than that of the Punch EV.

Battery and Charging Options

The Tata Punch EV offers two battery options: a 25kWh battery with a range of 315 km (MIDC) and a 35kWh battery with a range of 421 km (MIDC). Charging options include a 3.3kW wall box charger and a 7.2kW fast charger. The Long Range variants are powered by a 122hp, 190Nm motor, while the regular variants come with an 82hp, 114Nm motor. Prices for the Punch EV range from Rs 10.99 lakh to Rs 15.49 lakh.

Competition

The Punch EV’s main competitor, the Citroen eC3, is priced from Rs 12.69 lakh but received a 0-star rating from Global NCAP, highlighting the Punch EV’s superior safety credentials.
