Tata Punch EV Revealed

Tata Motors has unveiled its latest model for 2024 – the Punch EV, marking the brand’s fourth venture into the realm of all-electric vehicles (EVs) and the second electric SUV. Bookings for this exciting new offering are now open, and enthusiasts can reserve their Punch EV at Tata’s new EV-only outlets, select standard showrooms, or through the company’s online portal for a nominal amount of Rs 21,000. Notably, the Punch EV is also the debutant on Tata’s Gen 2 EV architecture, known as acti.ev.

Exterior Design

Upon closer inspection, the Punch EV’s exterior design draws parallels with the Nexon EV, showcasing a scaled-down version of its popular electric SUV sibling. Featuring an updated grille and bumper design, the Punch EV boasts a distinctive full-width light bar at the front, a split headlamp setup reminiscent of the Nexon EV, and a novel charging socket placement at the front – a first for Tata EVs. The rear exhibits a Y-shaped brake light setup, a roof-mounted spoiler, and a dual-tone bumper design. Notably, the Punch EV introduces a frunk, a novel addition for Tata’s EV lineup.

Range, Battery, and Powertrain

While specific technical details remain undisclosed, Tata offers two Punch EV variants – Standard and Long Range – expected to house 25kWh and 35kWh battery packs, respectively. The modular platform claims a range between 300km to 600km, with the Punch EV anticipated to deliver between 300km to 400km. Charging options include a 3.3kW AC charger for the Standard variant and a 7.2kW AC charger for the Long Range variant, with DC fast charging support.

Interior and Features

The Punch EV interior showcases a layered dashboard design, featuring a prominent 10.25-inch infotainment screen, complemented by a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. The top-spec variant includes premium features such as a 360-degree camera, leatherette seats, electronic parking brake with auto hold, connected car tech, wireless charger, ventilated front seats, cruise control, and the innovative Arcade.ev app suite. Safety is prioritized with six airbags, ABS, ESC, blind view monitor, three-point seat belts, ISOFIX mounts, and an SOS function.

Trims and Variants

Tata offers five trims for the standard Punch EV – Smart, Smart+, Adventure, Empowered, and Empowered+, while the Long Range variant comes in three trims – Adventure, Empowered, and Empowered+. Both variants offer five dual-tone paint options. Positioned between the Nexon EV MR and Tiago EV MR, the Punch EV is expected to be competitively priced, ranging between Rs 10 lakh-13 lakh, ex-showroom.

TPEM’s Pure EV Architecture – acti.ev

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) introduces its Pure EV architecture, acti.ev, which underpins the Punch EV. acti.ev focuses on Performance, Technology, Modularity, and Space Efficiency across its four layers:
