Tata Nexon Introduces New Entry-Level Petrol and Diesel Variants

Tata Motors has recently unveiled new entry-level variants for the Nexon, effectively reducing its starting price point. This strategic move comes shortly after the launch of the Mahindra XUV 3XO (XUV300 facelift) in India. The Nexon’s petrol variant now begins at Rs 8 lakh, while the diesel variant starts from Rs 10 lakh.

What’s New with Tata Nexon?

The introduction of the Nexon Smart (O) variant marks a significant update in the lineup, priced at Rs 8 lakh for the petrol version. This variant offers a more accessible entry point into the Nexon range, being Rs 15,000 cheaper than the previous base variant, Smart. This adjustment aims to compete effectively against the lower-priced variants of the XUV 3XO, which start from Rs 7.49 lakh.

Tata Nexon: New Variants

Petrol variant Price Diesel variant Price
Smart (O) Rs 8 lakh Smart + Rs 10 lakh
Smart + S Rs 10.60 lakh

Additionally, Tata has reduced the prices for the Smart + and Smart + S variants by Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000, respectively. The Nexon Smart + is now priced at Rs 8.90 lakh, while the Smart + S variant costs Rs 9.40 lakh.

Tata Nexon diesel has also seen the introduction of two new variants – Smart + and Smart + S. The Smart + serves as the new entry-level option, priced at Rs 10 lakh, while the Smart + S variant is available for Rs 10.60 lakh. This move has effectively lowered the base price of the Nexon diesel by Rs 1.10 lakh.

Powertrain and Equipment

Mechanically, the compact SUV remains unchanged. The Nexon continues to offer a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 120hp and 170Nm of torque, along with a 1.5-litre diesel unit generating 115hp and 260Nm of torque. Transmission options include 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual, 6-speed AMT, and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions. In March, the compact SUV also received five new automatic variants.

In terms of features, the Nexon boasts a range of offerings such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a similarly-sized fully digital driver’s display, wireless charger, ventilated and height-adjustable front seats, cruise control, a 9-speaker JBL sound system with a subwoofer, voice-assisted electric sunroof, and more. Safety features include six airbags, hill-start assist, ESP, TPMS, a 360-degree camera, among others.

The Tata Nexon remains competitive in its segment, rivaling models like the Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Maruti Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger.
