Tata Motors has officially unveiled the highly-anticipated second major facelift for its popular Nexon compact SUV. The company has set a launch date for the refreshed Nexon and Nexon EV on September 14, with bookings set to open on September 4. This 2023 Nexon facelift comes packed with exciting updates and features, drawing design inspiration from the Curvv and Harrier EV concepts.
Exterior Design
The exterior of the Nexon facelift showcases a striking split-headlamp setup. Sequential LED daytime running lights (DRLs) adorn the top section, while the main headlights are placed at the lower part of the front fascia. These elements are connected by a sleek upper grille housing the iconic Tata logo. Below, a larger grille features a robust plastic bar running across it, complemented by a faux skid plate for a rugged look. Notable changes include a new accent line running along the side, and updated alloy wheels. The rear sports a full-width LED light bar centered around the Tata Motors logo, with the reverse light now integrated into the bumper. The Nexon facelift maintains its impressive ground clearance of 208mm.
Interior and Features
Inside, the Nexon facelift’s interior reflects elements from the Curvv concept, featuring a fresh touchscreen setup and a two-spoke steering wheel design. The air conditioning vents are now sleeker and more angular, and the dashboard boasts fewer physical buttons. The center console houses two toggles for HVAC controls, surrounded by a touch-based panel. A prominent highlight is the 10.25-inch free-standing touchscreen display, which debuted in the Nexon EV Max Dark edition.
The Nexon facelift also boasts a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster that can be customized to display navigation and more. Top-spec variants offer a range of premium features, including a 360-degree camera, connected car technology, a wireless charger, ventilated front seats, an air purifier, and more. Safety is paramount, with six airbags, ESC, three-point seat belts for all seats, ISOFIX, and emergency and breakdown call assist included.
Powertrain and Variants
Under the hood, the Nexon facelift retains its 120hp, 170Nm, 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine. Notably, it now comes with a choice of four gearboxes: a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed AMT, and a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic with paddle shifters, depending on the variant. The 115hp, 160Nm, 1.5-liter diesel engine continues to be available with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed AMT.
Tata Motors has revamped its naming scheme, moving away from the ‘X’-prefixed nomenclature and adopting a Punch-like naming strategy. The Nexon facelift’s new trim names include Smart, Smart+, Smart+ (S), Pure, Pure (S), Creative, Creative+, Creative+ (S), Fearless, Fearless (S), and Fearless+ (S). The ‘+” indicates optional packages that bundle various features, while ‘(S)’ signifies trims equipped with a sunroof.
