Tata Motors has announced that it will introduce a CNG variant of its popular Nexon compact SUV within this financial year. The upcoming Nexon CNG, showcased in near-production form as the Nexon iCNG concept at the Bharat Mobility Show earlier this year, is set to make its mark in the Indian automotive market.
Key Highlights:
- First Turbocharged CNG Vehicle in India: The Nexon CNG will be India’s first-ever turbocharged CNG vehicle.
- Direct Rival to Maruti Brezza CNG: It will compete directly with the Maruti Brezza CNG.
Design and Features:
The CNG-powered Nexon will maintain the same exterior and interior design as the standard SUV, along with an identical equipment list. However, it may feature some CNG-specific mechanical upgrades to the suspension and distinct iCNG badges to differentiate it from other variants.
Powertrain:
The Nexon CNG will use the same 1.2-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder engine found in the petrol variants, making it a unique offering in the Indian market. While Tata Motors recently introduced AMT variants of the Tiago and Tigor CNG, it remains to be seen if the Nexon CNG will also come with an AMT gearbox option.
Versatile Powertrain Options:
Once launched, the Nexon will be the only vehicle in India to offer such a diverse range of powertrain options, including petrol, diesel, CNG with multiple gearbox choices, and an all-electric version.
Upcoming Launches:
In addition to the Nexon CNG, Tata Motors will also introduce the Curvv in both electric and ICE variants, as well as the Tata Harrier EV within this financial year.
The launch of the Nexon CNG is eagerly anticipated, promising to add a new dimension to Tata Motors’ already versatile lineup and intensify competition in the compact SUV segment.
