The automotive giant’s decision to establish this new manufacturing base comes in response to capacity limitations at its current production sites. “Our current manufacturing infrastructure is approaching maximum utilization. The Panapakkam facility represents our strategic response to meet future demand,” Chandra explained during the earnings call.

Production Rationalization Strategy
Previously, Tata Motors assembled the Range Rover Evoque at its Pune manufacturing unit, alongside other premium JLR models including the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Discovery Sport, and Velar. The Defender and Discovery continue to arrive through the import route.
The transfer of Evoque production to Tamil Nadu represents the initial phase of a broader manufacturing optimization strategy, allowing the company to balance production loads across facilities and prepare for future growth.
