After its striking debut in close-to-production guise at the Bharat Mobility Expo, the Tata Curvv is poised for its official launch. Sources confirm that the electric vehicle (EV) iteration is scheduled for release in the second quarter of the fiscal year 2025 (July-September 2024). Subsequently, the diesel-powered Curvv is expected to follow within 3-4 months, possibly coinciding with a launch around Diwali, and the petrol variant will be the last to hit the market.
Exterior Design and Platform
Based on the Nexon platform, the Tata Curvv boasts a familiar design language. Featuring Tata’s signature split-LED headlamp setup, gloss-black cladding on the sides, a distinctive coupe-like roofline, and a split tail-lamp arrangement at the rear, the Curvv stands out. Differentiating factors between the EV and internal combustion engine (ICE) models include distinct bumpers and LED light signatures. In terms of dimensions, the Curvv surpasses the Nexon, being 313mm longer, with a 62mm longer wheelbase.
Interior and Features
Drawing similarities with the Nexon, the Curvv’s interior shares a lot in common. The dashboard design remains largely unchanged, featuring the four-spoke illuminated steering wheel from the Harrier and Safari. The 10.25-inch screens for the instrument cluster and digital dials are likely to be retained. However, the EV variant may showcase unique switchgear and additional features, akin to the Nexon EV’s enhancements over the regular Nexon. Noteworthy features may include a wireless charger, 360-degree camera, ventilated seats, and connected car features. An exterior image suggests the inclusion of a sunroof, though not likely to be panoramic.
Powertrain Options
The Tata Curvv offers diverse powertrain options. The petrol variant houses a new 125hp, 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, available with both manual and automatic transmissions. Diesel versions utilize the Nexon’s 1.5-litre, four-cylinder unit, making it a notable diesel offering in the midsize SUV segment. A Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) option is expected in the future. The EV variant adopts Tata’s Gen 2 acti.ev architecture, promising a range of 450-500km, although detailed technical specifications are currently limited. With up to four powertrain options, the Curvv aims to carve a unique niche in the competitive midsize SUV segment.
Market Competition
Upon its launch, the Tata Curvv SUV coupe will enter the bustling midsize SUV segment, challenging rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and MG Astor.
