Tata Altroz Sales Cross 1,75,000 Units in Just 3 Years

The Tata Altroz was first introduced on the Indian market in January 2020, and three years have now passed. Our sister journal, Autocar Professional, conducted sales and data analytics on the Altroz and anticipated that it would sell 1,76,596 units between its launch in 2020 and the end of December 2022.

Revenue Split for Tata Altroz

The Altroz, which is now offered in as many as 31 different configurations and is powered by 1.2-liter petrol, 1.2-liter turbo petrol, or 1.5-liter diesel engines, sold 50,000 units in its first year on the market. Then, in September of 2021, 10 months later, the 1,00,000th Altroz was produced at Tata Motors’ Pune facility.

In FY2021, the Altroz shifted 60,379 units, while in FY2022, it shifted 62,247. With three months left in the fiscal year, the Altroz is projected to have sold 45,512 units between April and December 2022. This amounts to an average of 5,056 units sold every month.

The Altroz has maintained a steady level of market interest thanks to its flexible powertrain configurations and five-star rating from Global NCAP. Though it outsells the i20 (which sells about 7,000 units per month on average) and the Baleno (which sells around 19,000 units per month on average), it is still well behind the segment leader. The current price of an Altroz can be anything from Rs 6.35 million to Rs 10.25 million (ex-showroom).

There will be more engine choices for the Tata Altroz

Earlier this year, Tata added a new DCT as an automatic transmission option on the Altroz lineup, but the company has plans to increase the number of available transmissions. A new iCNG version of the hatchback was displayed by Tata at this year’s Auto Expo, and we’ve heard that it will be released sometime this year. It will have a 1.2-liter, 77-horsepower petrol-CNG engine, but more importantly, it will have a revolutionary ‘twin-cylinder’ tank configuration that reportedly does not affect cargo space. The Baleno and the Glanza are two other options in this market that provide a CNG engine option.

The Altroz will then provide the most flexible engine options of any premium hatchback, including gasoline, diesel, and compressed natural gas. Despite rumours to the contrary, Tata plans to keep the 1.5-liter diesel engine available on the Altroz after the RDE rules are implemented. Because the i20 is phasing out its diesel option, the Altroz will soon be the only diesel hatchback available.

More gear is on the way, according to Tata Altroz

At the Auto Expo, Tata Motors showed off a preview of the Altroz Racer, a sportier variant that boasts a number of new features. The main enhancement over the previous 7.0-inch system is the new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. In addition to the new 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster, sunroof, wireless charging, and air purifier, the Altroz racer also has ventilated front seats.

The availability of the larger touchscreen on the hatchback is all but assured, but the fate of the other amenities is up in the air.
