Skoda Ramps Up Production as Kylaq Enters Series Manufacturing

Skoda India has officially begun the series production of its compact SUV, the Kylaq, marking an important milestone for the brand. Alongside this, Skoda has announced a 30% expansion in production capacity at its Chakan plant to meet the anticipated demand for its most affordable SUV, which recently debuted in the market.

Kylaq Joins Skoda’s MQB A0 IN Lineup

Built on the versatile MQB A0 IN platform, the Kylaq becomes the fifth model in India to utilize this architecture, joining the ranks of the Skoda Kushaq and Slavia, along with Volkswagen’s Taigun and Virtus. The highly localized platform has allowed Skoda to introduce the Kylaq at a competitive starting price of ₹7.89 lakh. To further streamline operations, Skoda has also increased supplier capacity by 10%, enabling faster component procurement.

Boosted Production Capacity at Chakan

In preparation for the Kylaq, Skoda has expanded the Chakan plant’s annual capacity to 2.55 lakh units, representing a 30% increase. The company plans to produce between 50,000 and 70,000 units of the Kylaq annually, equating to a monthly output of 4,000–5,800 vehicles. While initial sales will focus on the domestic market, Skoda aims to export the Kylaq to enhance economies of scale.

Strong Demand and Delivery Timeline

Since bookings opened on December 2, 2024, the Kylaq has garnered significant interest, amassing 10,000 orders. Skoda plans to deliver the first batch of 33,333 units by May 2025, with the entry-level variant already sold out for this allocation.

Showroom Availability and Test Drive Schedule

The Kylaq will be available in showrooms from January 27, 2025, coinciding with the commencement of deliveries. Customer test drives are also expected to start on the same day. Ahead of its retail launch, Skoda will showcase the Kylaq at the Bharat Mobility Show (Auto Expo 2025) in New Delhi, beginning January 17.

With its aggressive pricing, strong demand, and enhanced production capabilities, the Kylaq is set to play a pivotal role in Skoda’s growth strategy in India.
