Skoda is set to reintroduce the Octavia sedan in India later this year, marking the return of a diesel powertrain after a five-year hiatus. The company had phased out diesel engines in 2020 following Volkswagen Group’s decision to discontinue them. However, at the recent Auto Expo 2025, Skoda confirmed its plans to bring back the diesel variant. Speaking during the Octavia RS drive event, Skoda Auto India’s brand director, Petr Janeba, revealed that the diesel-powered Octavia is expected to launch just ahead of the festive season.
India-Spec Skoda Octavia Diesel: Key Details
- Engine & Transmission: The India-bound Octavia diesel will be powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine producing 150hp, paired with an automatic gearbox as standard.
- Imported Model: The sedan will be brought in as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) under the Indian government’s GSR 870 import regulations.
- Launch Timeline: Skoda is targeting a late September launch, aligning with the festive season demand.
The India-spec Octavia diesel will be identical to the UK-spec model, ensuring a premium offering for customers. While pricing details are yet to be finalized, Skoda is currently evaluating the positioning of the diesel variant within its portfolio.
