Skoda India to Launch First EV by September 2025 – Enyaq iV or Elroq?

Skoda India to Launch First EV by September 2025

Skoda Auto India is set to debut its first electric vehicle (EV) by September 2025, marking a significant milestone in its electrification journey. While the Enyaq iV was initially planned for a 2024 launch, the company has delayed its introduction to align with India’s evolving EV policies.

Petr Janeba, Brand Director of Skoda India, confirmed, “Our first electric SUV is coming by September at the latest.” However, he did not specify whether the Enyaq iV would be the chosen model.

Enyaq iV or Elroq: Skoda’s EV Plans for India

The Enyaq iV has been under evaluation for India since 2023 and has been spotted testing multiple times. However, with the model receiving a mid-cycle facelift globally, Skoda is now also considering the recently unveiled Elroq. Both EVs, along with the Enyaq Coupe, share Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, making them strong contenders for the Indian market.

The Elroq, showcased at the 2024 Auto Expo, is a 4.49-meter-long electric SUV—slightly smaller than the 4.65-meter Enyaq iV. Skoda will make a final decision on which EV to launch based on the Indian government’s revised EV policy, expected to be finalized by March 2025.

India’s EV Policy: Key Factor in Skoda’s Decision

The Indian government’s EV policy, announced in March 2024, proposes a reduced 15% customs duty on imported EVs priced above USD 35,000, provided manufacturers invest at least ₹4,150 crore in local production. Without this investment, import duties remain at 70-100%. Skoda is carefully assessing this policy before making its final call, though its first EV will likely arrive as a full import. Meanwhile, the company is actively working with Volkswagen to develop a localized, India-specific EV platform.

Second-Gen Skoda Kodiaq to Arrive in Q2 2025

In addition to its EV plans, Skoda India is preparing to launch the second-generation Kodiaq in Q2 2025. Production of the premium SUV is set to begin by February 2025, with local assembly via completely knocked-down (CKD) kits. The new-gen Kodiaq is expected to be priced slightly higher than the outgoing L&K variant, which currently costs ₹40.99 lakh (ex-showroom).

With these developments, Skoda aims to strengthen its presence in the Indian market, offering both premium ICE and EV models in the near future.
