Nissan has officially teased its upcoming compact MPV, which shares its platform with the Renault Triber, ahead of its launch in India later this year. Initially announced in December 2023, this three-row MPV will feature distinct design and feature upgrades, positioning it as a unique offering in Nissan’s lineup. As Nissan seeks to expand its presence in the Indian market, this new model could play a crucial role in its revival strategy over the next two years.
Distinctive Design Tweaks
While it shares the CMF-A+ platform with the Triber, Nissan has ensured that its MPV stands apart with exclusive design elements. The most significant changes are seen on the front and rear bumpers, featuring a larger C-shaped grille with hexagonal vents and a centrally positioned Nissan logo. A silver wraparound treatment on the bumper adds a premium touch.
The projector headlamp units retain a similar shape to the Triber’s but sport a revised LED daytime running light (DRL) signature along the top edge, replacing the Triber’s separate bumper-mounted DRLs. While the rear design has not been fully revealed, sources suggest a redesigned bumper with silver accents and tail-lights featuring unique internal detailing. Functional roof rails and newly designed alloy wheels further elevate its appeal.
Interior Inspired by the Magnite
Inside, Nissan has worked on differentiating the cabin with distinct materials and colors. Higher variants will feature dual-tone upholstery with quilted detailing for an upmarket feel. The dashboard, central touchscreen, gear lever, and center console will be borrowed from the Magnite SUV, enhancing its modernity.
The MPV will offer a 7-seat configuration with a modular third row, ensuring versatility for Indian families. The feature list is expected to align with the Triber’s, including a 7.0-inch TFT instrument cluster, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, a cooled central storage box, and sliding/reclining second-row seats.
Proven Powertrain Under the Hood
Mechanically, the Nissan MPV will share its powertrain with the Triber. It will be powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 72hp and 96Nm of peak torque. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. Despite anticipation for a more powerful 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, Nissan has confirmed that it will not be part of the initial launch.
Production and Market Strategy
The official name of the MPV is yet to be revealed, but it will be manufactured at the Renault-Nissan Alliance’s Chennai plant alongside the Triber. The model will also be exported to international markets. Nissan has hinted at a festive season launch in India, positioning it as a practical and budget-friendly option for family buyers.
Nissan’s Broader India Strategy
This launch is part of Nissan India’s broader strategy, which includes a Creta-rivaling SUV set for FY2026, with a 7-seat version also in the pipeline. Additionally, the company is preparing a CNG variant of the Magnite, soon to be available as a dealer-level fitment.
With these upcoming models, Nissan aims to regain momentum in the Indian market, and its new compact MPV could be a significant step in that direction.
