The second-generation Skoda Kodiaq, which was globally unveiled last October, is scheduled to make its way to India between April and June 2025. Autocar India has confirmed this launch window, ensuring enthusiasts can look forward to the revamped model’s arrival next year.
Key Highlights:
- Launch Timeline: April to June 2025
- Engine: Retains the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine
- Compact SUV Launch: Expected before the new Kodiaq
In a conversation with Petr Janeba, Skoda India’s brand director, it was revealed that the new Kodiaq will be introduced in India as a completely knocked-down (CKD) unit. Janeba explained the delay in the Kodiaq’s arrival, noting that while importing completely built-up (CBU) units is simpler, the components for CKD vehicles must be homologated according to the latest standards.
Janeba also mentioned that Skoda is developing new racks for shipping the parts needed for the right-hand drive Kodiaq to India. “The car is completely new, so the racks must be completely new as well. Developing the most efficient setup for these racks is why it takes some time,” he added.
The second-gen Kodiaq, currently available in a left-hand drive (LHD) configuration, is still undergoing testing for the right-hand drive version intended for India. Recently, the SUV was spotted testing in the country without camouflage.
Skoda Kodiaq: Powertrain, Specs, and Features
The Kodiaq will continue to feature the same powertrain as the outgoing model: a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 190hp and 320Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system.
The India-spec Kodiaq is expected to offer similar equipment to the European model. A new 13-inch freestanding touchscreen will control most vehicle functions, accompanied by a fully digital instrument cluster and three new physical ‘smart dials’. The outer two rotary knobs, each featuring a 32mm color display, will manage the climate controls for the driver and passengers, while the middle knob will be configurable to control infotainment volume, driving modes, map zoom, and air conditioning.
Currently, the Kodiaq is available in a single, fully loaded L&K variant, priced at Rs 39.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Due to the upcoming changes, a price increase is anticipated. Skoda has confirmed that the current-gen model will remain on sale in India until the end of this year, followed by a 3- to 6-month hiatus before the new model’s launch.
Skoda’s Compact SUV to Launch Before Next-Gen Kodiaq
Skoda’s forthcoming compact SUV is set to debut in February 2025. “We want it to be the hero for at least two months, like March and April. We don’t want to overshadow its launch with the Kodiaq,” Janeba explained.
This strategy ensures that Skoda’s new compact SUV receives its moment in the spotlight before the highly anticipated next-gen Kodiaq arrives.
