New Triumph Scrambler 400 Variant Spotted: Affordable and Practical Updates

New Triumph Scrambler 400 Variant Spotted

Bajaj and Triumph appear to be expanding their lineup, with a new, budget-friendly version of the Triumph Scrambler 400 X spotted in testing. Following the launch of the Triumph Speed T4—a more accessible, urban-focused version of the Speed 400—this new iteration of the Scrambler hints at a similar strategy to cater to a wider audience.

Distinctive Changes for Affordability

While maintaining its rugged DNA, the test model features subtle yet notable changes that suggest cost-cutting measures. A sleeker rectangular tail lamp replaces the current model’s design, and the split grab rails are swapped out for a more straightforward single-piece unit. The single-piece seat, crafted from simpler materials, further underscores the push toward affordability.

Additional simplifications include a more basic rear brake lever and the omission of premium features like the handlebar brace and knuckle guards, differentiating this variant from the standard Scrambler 400 X.

Added Visual Bulk

Despite the cost-conscious adjustments, the bike gets enhancements aimed at boosting its road presence—an aspect particularly valued by Indian buyers. Redesigned side panels replace the existing oval ones, adding a sense of mass to the bike’s rear profile. Furthermore, the chunkier tyres, reminiscent of updates to the Speed 400 for 2025, suggest improved off-road appeal.

Engine and Pricing Speculation

The new variant may also feature the detuned engine introduced in the Speed T4, delivering 31 hp and 36 Nm of torque—slightly less than the current 400 X. In terms of pricing, if the existing Rs 23,000 gap between the Speed 400 and Speed T4 is any indication, this Scrambler could see a price tag closer to Rs 2.40 lakh, making it a compelling option for budget-conscious enthusiasts.

Launch Timeline

With the test bike looking production-ready—diagnostic ports aside—a launch could be expected as early as the first quarter of 2025.

This strategic addition to Triumph’s lineup reflects a clear intent to attract a broader audience, offering an accessible entry point into the brand’s Scrambler range without sacrificing core appeal.
