New Kia Compact SUV teased with EV9-like styling

New Kia Compact SUV teased with EV9-like styling

Kia India has unveiled the first teaser for its upcoming compact SUV, which showcases a bold design influenced by the EV9 and Carnival. Slated to launch in early 2025, this new sub-4-meter SUV will sit above the Kia Sonet, emphasizing enhanced rear-seat comfort and space.

Key Design Elements of Kia’s New Compact SUV

The teaser hints at a distinctive profile and rear quarter view, characterized by a tall, upright stance. A prominent clamshell bonnet flows seamlessly into the SUV’s front fascia, giving it a robust appearance. One unique design feature is a sharply rising window line that kinks near the rear quarter, evoking memories of the Skoda Yeti with a body-colored B-pillar break.

Additional design highlights include flush-mounted door handles, vertical LED daytime running lights inspired by the EV9, functional roof rails, and L-shaped LED taillights positioned high with a wraparound effect along the rear windshield. Slightly flared wheel arches and likely body cladding further enhance the SUV’s rugged look.

Interior Focus: Spacious and Comfort-Driven

While Kia has not released any interior images yet, the SUV’s tall design is intended to prioritize rear-seat comfort and space, addressing one of the main limitations of the Sonet. The upright silhouette should contribute to ample headroom and a more spacious cabin overall.

Kia describes the interior as “lounge-like,” with futuristic features and an innovative seating layout. Premium amenities on higher trims are expected to include an ADAS suite, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated and power-adjustable front seats, and a fully digital instrument cluster.

Powertrain Options: ICE and EV Versions

Details on the powertrain remain under wraps, but the SUV is expected to come with both internal combustion and electric options. Kia will likely debut the ICE version first, with the EV variant following later. Both versions will share the same platform and offer front-wheel-drive configurations.

Market Position and Potential Name

Expected to be named the Kia Syros, the SUV will likely compete with top sub-4m models such as the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Brezza, and Skoda Kushaq. Positioned above the Sonet, this model aims to offer a more spacious and feature-rich alternative in the compact SUV segment.
