New FASTag annual passes introduced for Rs 3000

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has announced a new FASTag-based annual pass aimed at easing toll payments for frequent private vehicle users on national highways. Starting August 15, motorists will be able to opt for this pass at a one-time cost of Rs 3,000, valid for either one year from activation or 200 toll transactions, whichever comes first.

This initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to simplify toll payments and reduce costs for regular highway commuters. Unlike the current system, which allows monthly passes tied to a single toll plaza, the new annual pass will be usable across all FASTag-enabled toll booths on national highways.

Key Features of the New Annual Pass:

The dedicated activation link will go live closer to the launch date. Once activated, users can enjoy seamless travel across the country’s FASTag network without repeated toll charges.

According to Gadkari, this long-awaited policy is designed to resolve key issues faced by motorists, especially those travelling between toll plazas spaced less than 60km apart. It’s also expected to reduce congestion, eliminate disputes, and shorten waiting times at toll booths — contributing to a smoother and more economical travel experience.
