Bajaj Auto is gearing up to expand its electric portfolio with the launch of a new Bajaj Chetak electric scooter on January 14. The upcoming model is expected to bring subtle but meaningful design updates, while continuing to build on the strong market momentum the Chetak brand has achieved in India’s fast-growing EV scooter segment.
Refreshed Design Likely, New Tail-Light Confirmed
Bajaj has officially teased the new model via a launch invite, offering a glimpse of a revised LED tail-light design. Unlike the current split LED setup with vertical light elements, the upcoming Chetak appears to feature a single horizontal LED tail-light, with turn indicators positioned at either end and Chetak branding placed above it.
While the teaser focuses on the rear, the rest of the scooter is expected to receive minor cosmetic refinements rather than a full redesign, retaining the Chetak’s familiar metal-bodied retro-modern styling.
Strong Sales Performance in 2025
The Bajaj Chetak has emerged as one of the strongest performers in the electric scooter market. In 2025, Bajaj sold close to 2.70 lakh units, giving the Chetak a 21 percent share of India’s e-scooter market. This performance puts it in direct competition with the segment leader, the TVS iQube, as both brands continue to battle for the top spot.
Notably, Bajaj crossed the 2 lakh annual sales mark for the first time, despite facing temporary production challenges during July–August due to supply constraints related to rare-earth magnets.
Current Bajaj Chetak Line-up Overview
At present, the Chetak range is offered with two battery pack options:
-
3kWh battery
-
3.5kWh battery
These are split across two series:
-
Chetak 3001
-
Chetak 35 series, which includes 3501, 3502 and 3503 variants
The entry-level 3001 and 3503 variants focus on essentials, offering features such as a negative LCD instrument cluster with mobile connectivity. Higher trims like the 3502 and 3501 add more premium tech, including a TFT display, with the top-spec 3501 featuring a touchscreen interface and enhanced app connectivity.
Pricing Expectations
Currently, the Bajaj Chetak is priced between Rs 99,500 and Rs 1.22 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru). The upcoming model is expected to be positioned toward the lower end of the range, making it more accessible, though it may not replace the most affordable variant outright.
What This Launch Means
With a refreshed design and competitive pricing expected, the new Bajaj Chetak could further strengthen Bajaj’s position in the electric scooter space. If priced aggressively, it may appeal strongly to urban commuters looking for a reliable, well-built electric scooter with proven market acceptance.
More details, including official specifications, features and prices, will be revealed at the launch on January 14.
