MG's Halol Facility Produces One Million Units of the Hector Model

Exactly four years after the manufacture of the original Hector began, the second generation was released.

Recently, MG Motor India’s Halol facility in Gujarat produced its one-millionth Hector. It just so happens that four years ago, on the same day, the automaker launched the assembly of the Hector at its plant in India. We think the updated version of the SUV is the one thousand thousandths to roll off the assembly line.

How can you know for sure that this is the updated version?

The manufacturer took precautions to hide the SUV’s new look with festive decorations on its front end, but keen petrol enthusiasts have discovered the subtle differences. There are new twin LED headlight housings, a thicker chrome-studded grille (previously seen in a teaser image), and a modified front bumper that houses the ADAS radar.

Updates on the Latest Hector

Refined LED daytime running lights, a red strip joining the taillights to the lighting element, and ‘Hector’ and ‘ADAS’ badges on the trunk lid are a few more examples of the redesign’s improvements to visual appeal. The interior has also been updated extensively, with a new dashboard layout and upholstery in a dual-tone concept that elevates the car to a higher class.

The 2023 Hector will come standard with a digital driver’s display, a big 14-inch touchscreen panel (the current model gets a 10.4-inch device), a panoramic sunroof, and multi-color ambient lighting. In addition to the six airbags, 360-degree camera, and electronic stability control already standard on the SUV, ADAS will further enhance its safety features (ESC).

Generators Available for Purchase

The MG SUV will keep offering the same range of available powertrains as the current generation model. The 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine is available with a mild-hybrid system that operates on 48 volts (143PS and 250Nm). It can be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission or a six-speed stick shift. In contrast, the 2-liter diesel engine produces 170PS and 350Nm but is only available with a six-speed manual transmission.

Date of Introduction, Cost, and Competitors

A fresh online document suggests that the automaker would release the updated Hector SUV in January 2023 in a single fully outfitted model. It will exist alongside the existing Hector and may have a price tag of Rs 18 lakh (ex-showroom). While rivals like the Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV700, and Jeep Compass offer formidable opposition, the MG SUV manages to hold its own.
