Mercedes-Benz India is set to announce the prices for its flagship electric SUV, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS, on September 5. Originally debuting in China last year, this luxurious electric SUV will join the Mercedes-Maybach GLS in the brand’s Indian portfolio. As the global flagship electric SUV for Mercedes-Maybach, the EQS SUV stands apart from the standard EQS with a host of Maybach-specific design elements, features, and technological upgrades.
Distinctive Maybach Design Elements
The Maybach EQS SUV features numerous signature design cues both inside and out. Externally, it boasts chrome accents and multiple Maybach logos, akin to the recently launched Mercedes-Maybach GLS in India. At the front, a sealed-off black panel mimics a grille, housing radar sensors for the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). This large panel is further enhanced with vertical chrome strips, lending it a three-dimensional effect. As with other Maybach models, the upper section of this faux grille is adorned with chrome “Maybach” lettering.
Along the sides, chrome details continue on the window line and B-pillar, with an additional Maybach logo on the D-pillar. The SUV also features “EQS” embossing on the window frame, similar to the standard EQS SUV. Buyers can choose between 21- or 22-inch alloy and forged wheels, both branded with Maybach lettering. Additionally, the SUV comes equipped with factory-installed illuminated running boards, finished in anodized aluminum.
Luxurious Interiors with Advanced Technology
Inside, the Maybach EQS SUV mirrors the layout of the standard EQS SUV but includes exclusive Maybach-specific graphics across its three screens. The animated display of the instrument cluster in Maybach mode is one of the standout features.
Rear passengers are treated to an entertainment package that includes two 11.6-inch displays mounted on the front seatbacks, along with an MBUX tablet that can be used both inside and outside the vehicle.
Powerful Performance and Specs
In India, the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV will be available only in the top-spec 680 variant. This version comes standard with 4Matic all-wheel-drive technology, delivering a formidable 658hp and 950Nm of torque. It offers a range of up to 600km (WLTP), accelerates from 0-100kph in a claimed 4.4 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 210kph. While the Maybach EQS is also available in a 580 4Matic variant abroad, with 544hp and a range of up to 456km, this option will not be offered in India.
Further details on the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV are expected to be unveiled closer to its official launch.
