Mercedes-Benz India Begins Production of New E-Class LWB Ahead of October 9 Launch

Mercedes-Benz India has commenced series production of its new E-Class LWB (V214) at the Chakan plant, ahead of its official price announcement on October 9. Deliveries for the luxury sedan are expected to start by Diwali, with the model set to compete directly with the BMW 5 Series LWB in the Indian market.

Exclusive India-Specific Features of the E-Class LWB

India remains the only market where Mercedes-Benz offers the E-Class LWB in a right-hand drive configuration, and this is the second generation to feature this India-specific layout. The new model has undergone extensive testing across multiple locations, including Pune, Chennai, and Indore, as well as international sites in Germany and Spain.

The updated E-Class LWB is 13mm taller and 14mm longer than its predecessor, with a 15mm increase in wheelbase. Notable features include the Mercedes Superscreen layout, a 4D surround sound system by Burmester, and reclining rear seats with a backrest angle adjustment of 26 to 36 degrees, offering enhanced comfort compared to the previous model.

Powertrain and Performance

At launch, Mercedes will offer two engine options for the new E-Class: a 204hp 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 197hp 2.0-litre diesel, both paired with 48V mild hybrid systems. The hybrid system delivers an additional 23hp and 205Nm of torque. Both engine variants will come with a 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

Expected Pricing

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB is anticipated to start at around ₹82 lakh for the petrol variant, which positions it roughly ₹10 lakh higher than the LWB BMW 5 Series, its closest competitor.
