Mercedes-AMG confirms Future Electric Super SUV

Mercedes-AMG has officially announced its plans for an all-electric super SUV, poised to compete with models like the Lotus Eletre, the forthcoming electric Porsche Cayenne, and the hybrid BMW XM. This upcoming model will be built entirely by AMG from the ground up on its exclusive AMG.EA platform, marking a departure from designs based on existing models like the EQS SUV.

Expected to debut in 2026, the SUV will follow the release of the second-generation Mercedes-AMG GT 4-door coupe, the first vehicle to utilize the AMG.EA architecture. This advanced platform, an evolution of Mercedes’ MB.EA platform, integrates high-performance axial-flux electric motors from Yasa, a British engineering company. These motors deliver up to 480 hp each while weighing just 24 kg, enabling powerful yet efficient electric performance.

The AMG.EA platform’s robust architecture supports dual-motor setups on each axle, making it possible for models on this platform to exceed 1,000 hp. It also incorporates 800-volt electrical architecture and a specialized AMG battery with a silicon-anode composition for enhanced performance.

This high-performance SUV will take over from the current Mercedes-AMG GLE 63, offering a larger, more luxurious experience. The model will draw design inspiration from the low-slung Vision AMG concept, unveiled in 2022, and is anticipated to measure approximately 5.1 meters in length with a wheelbase exceeding 3.0 meters.
