McLaren Unveils MCL40 for 2026

British racing team reveals its contender for F1’s new regulatory era ahead of Bahrain testing

McLaren has become the latest Formula 1 constructor to showcase its 2026 challenger, with the MCL40 set to hit the circuit for its filming day shakedown on February 10. The reveal comes just one day before pre-season testing commences at Bahrain International Circuit on February 11.

Key Highlights for McLaren’s 2026 Campaign

Traditional Papaya Returns Following Championship Success

In keeping with McLaren’s long-standing philosophy of maintaining successful visual identities, the MCL40 retains the iconic papaya orange color scheme that accompanied the team’s 2025 championship triumph. The design features complementary black elements alongside subtle teal accents, creating a recognizable yet refined appearance.

Team Principal Andrea Stella addressed the challenges ahead: “2026 represents a fresh chapter as Formula 1 enters an entirely new regulatory framework. We’re positioning ourselves as an independent competitor against five major manufacturers, all determined to outperform us. Despite drawing from recent successes, these new regulations create a level playing field where previous accomplishments provide no inherent advantage.”

Stella emphasized McLaren’s readiness: “Our goal is immediate competitiveness from round one. We possess an exceptional combination of personnel, driver talent, our Mercedes HPP collaboration, commercial partners, and supporter base to achieve this. Our concentration remains on establishing optimal conditions for success in what represents our most substantial challenge yet. Fans can anticipate an exceptional racing season.”

Driver Lineup: Continuity and Championship Prestige

McLaren retains its proven driver combination of 2025 World Champion Lando Norris alongside Oscar Piastri. This partnership delivered remarkable results last season, securing McLaren’s constructors’ championship with a commanding 365-point advantage over Mercedes.

In a notable development, Norris will display the coveted No. 1 on his MCL40 throughout 2026, exercising the champion’s privilege following his maiden drivers’ title.

What’s Next?

Following the Bahrain pre-season test sessions, the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship will officially commence at Albert Park Circuit for the Australian Grand Prix from March 6-8, where McLaren will begin defending both championship titles.
