The Maruti eVX electric SUV, which debuted at the Auto Expo 2023, holds significant importance as it could potentially be Maruti Suzuki’s first electric vehicle (EV). Recent spy shots of a prototype test mule suggest that development work on the production version of the eVX has already commenced. The prototype has shed some of the unrealistic concept details, such as exaggerated wheels and cameras for the ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors).
What Do The Spy Shots Reveal?
The spy images reveal a heavily camouflaged eVX, featuring temporary headlights and taillights, along with a chrome bar on the grille reminiscent of the Maruti Grand Vitara and Fronx models. The front grille is likely to be large and covered under the camouflage. The side profile of the eVX shares similarities with the Fronx, showcasing pronounced shoulder lines, a sloping roofline, silver-finished alloy wheels, rear pillar-mounted door handles, and ORVM-mounted side cameras indicating the provision of a 360-degree camera system. The rear of the vehicle is concealed under heavy camouflage but displays a wiper and connected LED lighting setup, with the number plate housed on the bumper.
Cabin Details Seen
The spy shots also provide a glimpse into the eVX’s cabin. The prominent feature is the presence of connected screens, a departure from any existing Maruti Suzuki models in India. The squared-off steering wheel with controls catches the eye, and upon closer inspection, a long center console running up to the dashboard and vertically stacked AC vents can be observed. The lower central console offers a significant storage space, and power adjustment for the driver’s seat is visible as well.
Electric Powertrain Details
While specific details about the electric powertrain of the production-spec eVX are scarce, Maruti Suzuki revealed at the Auto Expo 2023 that it will be equipped with a 60 kWh battery pack, providing a claimed range of up to 550 km. It was also confirmed that the eVX will feature a dual-motor setup, enabling a 4×4 drivetrain.
Expected Launch And Price
The anticipated launch of the Maruti Suzuki eVX in India is expected to take place around 2025, with an estimated starting price of approximately Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). The eVX will compete with other electric SUVs in the market, such as the MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona Electric, while offering a premium alternative to the Mahindra XUV400 and Tata Nexon EV Max.
