Maruti Grand Vitara Sales Surpass 2.5 Lakh Units

Maruti Suzuki’s flagship SUV, the Grand Vitara, has achieved a significant milestone by crossing 2.5 lakh unit sales since its launch on September 26, 2022. This makes it the fastest model in the midsize SUV segment to reach both the 1 lakh and 2 lakh sales milestones.

Dominating Nexa’s SUV Portfolio

The Grand Vitara has become Maruti Suzuki’s bestselling SUV under its premium Nexa channel. From April to November 2024, it accounted for 17% of the company’s UV (utility vehicle) sales, outpacing its stablemate, the Fronx, in cumulative sales. By November 2024, the Grand Vitara recorded total wholesales of 2,50,000 units, with 10,148 units sold in that month alone.

Notably, the SUV achieved the 2 lakh-unit milestone in early July 2024 and added another 50,000 units within just four months. As of now, it leads Nexa’s SUV sales, with a margin of 12,589 units over the Fronx, which launched in April 2023.

Setting Records in the Midsize SUV Segment

The Grand Vitara holds the distinction of being the fastest midsize SUV to achieve 2.5 lakh sales, reaching this figure in just 26 months. It outperformed its rival, the Hyundai Creta, which took 25 months to hit the same milestone. Earlier, the Grand Vitara had already established itself as the quickest in the segment to reach 1 lakh sales, accomplishing this in just 12 months.

Powertrain Options and Efficiency

A key factor in the Grand Vitara’s appeal is its diverse powertrain options, shared with the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. These include:

  1. 1.5-litre K15C petrol mild-hybrid engine
    • Output: 103hp
    • Transmission: 5-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic
  2. 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol hybrid engine (Toyota-sourced)
    • Combined output: 116hp
    • Electric motor specs: 79hp and 141Nm torque
    • Transmission: e-CVT gearbox
    • Claimed efficiency: 27.97kpl

Variants and Pricing

The Grand Vitara is available in 12 variants, with prices ranging from ₹10.99 lakh for the base Sigma variant to ₹19.93 lakh for the top-end Alpha+ variant (ex-showroom).

This performance cements the Grand Vitara’s position as a major player in the midsize SUV market, combining strong sales momentum with a versatile feature set.
