The Maruti Baleno, which is the best-selling luxury hatchback in the country, is the first in its class to get a 3-point seatbelt for the middle passenger in the back. It also has a movable headrest for the middle passenger in the back seat. The Toyota Glanza, which is similar to the Baleno, is expected to get the same safety update soon.
Recent safety rules from the government
After Cyrus Mistry, the former head of Tata Sons, died in a car accident last year, the Indian government made it a law that everyone in the back seat must wear a seatbelt. At a time when not all cheap cars have 3-point seats, Maruti’s move is a good one.
Maruti Baleno curtain airbags
In addition to making it mandatory for people in the back to wear seatbelts, the Indian government has set October 2023 as the date by which all cars that can carry up to eight people must come with six airbags as standard. But the minimum amount of airbags has not yet been made a law because not all models can work with that many and may not even be safer with them.
Safety Package for Baleno
Maruti gave the Baleno its second midlife update in early 2022. With this update, the car got six airbags, an electronic stability program (ESP), hill-start assist, and a camera that can see in all directions. The Baleno also has ABS with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), ISOFIX child seat anchors, a back-up camera, and rear parking sensors.
Differences, Costs, and Competition
The Baleno is sold by Maruti in four main styles: Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha. Prices range from Rs 6.61 lakh to Rs 9.88 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It competes against the Hyundai i20, the Toyota Glanza, the Tata Altroz, and the Citroen C3.
