Milestone Achievement: 9 Lakh Units of Mahindra Scorpio Rolled Off
The Mahindra Scorpio, a popular SUV known for its high-seating, road presence, and all-terrain capabilities, has achieved another significant milestone. The carmaker recently announced that they have rolled off 9 lakh units of the Scorpio since its introduction in 2002. This milestone is a testament to the enduring popularity of the Scorpio among consumers.
Facelifted Iterations: Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N
Mahindra has further enhanced the Scorpio’s appeal by introducing two new iterations: the facelifted Scorpio Classic and the all-new Scorpio N. The Scorpio Classic, with its refreshed design, offers a rugged alternative to monocoque compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Skoda Kushaq. On the other hand, the Scorpio N competes with rivals such as the Tata Harrier, Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar. It also provides the option of a four-wheel-drive, making it an off-road-capable alternative to the Mahindra XUV700.
Sales Comparison: Scorpio vs. Bolero
While the Scorpio has achieved an impressive production milestone, it is still behind the lifetime sales of another Mahindra model, the Bolero. The Bolero, one of Mahindra’s best-selling vehicles for over a decade, has already crossed the 14 lakh unit sales mark. However, the Scorpio’s popularity and continued demand, evident from the more than a lakh bookings awaiting delivery for the Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N as of May 2023, suggest that it has the potential to catch up quickly.
Recent Production Numbers and Future Outlook
In May 2023, Mahindra produced nearly 8,000 units of the Scorpio, considering both the Scorpio Classic and Scorpio N. With a plan to ramp up production, the next lakh units of the Scorpio nameplate could be produced in less than a year. This indicates that Mahindra is committed to meeting the strong demand for the Scorpio and ensuring timely deliveries to its customers.
Pricing and Competitors
The Mahindra Scorpio Classic is priced between Rs 13 lakh and Rs 16.81 lakh, while the Scorpio N ranges from Rs 13.05 lakh to Rs 24.52 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). These competitive price points, combined with the Scorpio’s unique features and capabilities, position it as a strong contender in the market. Its rivals include monocoque compact SUVs like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, as well as the Tata Harrier, Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar.
