Made-in-India Suzuki Jimny 5-Door Set to Debut in Japan as “Jimny Nomade”

Made-in-India Suzuki Jimny 5-Door Set to Debut in Japan as Jimny Nomade

The highly anticipated Suzuki Jimny 5-door, manufactured exclusively in India, is set to make its debut in the Japanese market this month under the name “Jimny Nomade.” This marks another milestone for India’s automotive exports, following the success of the locally-produced Jimny 3-door, which is already available in Japan with two distinct powertrain options.

A New Addition to Suzuki’s Japanese Lineup

The Jimny Nomade follows the recent introduction of the India-made Suzuki Fronx in Japan, making it the second such launch within a year. Sources reveal that the first shipment of the Jimny Nomade has already arrived, with showroom availability expected within days.

While the 3-door Jimny models are produced at Suzuki’s Kosai plant and sold as the Jimny Standard (660cc engine) or Jimny Sierra (1.5-litre engine), the Jimny Nomade builds upon the Jimny Sierra platform. The new name aims to differentiate the 5-door model and avoid confusion among buyers.

Key Features and Expected Changes

Unlike the Fronx, which received an all-wheel-drive setup and minor country-specific updates for the Japanese market, the Jimny Nomade will closely mirror its Indian counterpart. Apart from a rebranded badge and subtle modifications, it is expected to retain the same design, features, and color options as the Maruti Suzuki Jimny sold in India.

Under the hood, the Jimny Nomade will feature a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine, available with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission. As with all Jimny variants, Suzuki’s AllGrip part-time 4WD system will be standard across the lineup.

Bookings and Market Strategy

Bookings for the Jimny Nomade are now open in Japan. Suzuki has also offered customers waiting for the Jimny Sierra 3-door the option to switch to the 5-door Jimny Nomade, with priority delivery promised for those opting for the upgrade.

Looking Ahead

The Jimny Nomade is part of Suzuki’s broader strategy to expand its India-manufactured lineup in Japan. Following this launch, the next expected addition will be the recently unveiled e-Vitara electric SUV, slated for a late 2025 release in the Japanese market.

With the Jimny Nomade’s imminent launch, Suzuki continues to highlight India’s growing role as a key hub for global automotive production.
