The KTM 390 Duke has become significantly more expensive in India, with its price increased by Rs 40,000. The streetfighter is now priced at Rs 3.39 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), up from its earlier Rs 2.99 lakh tag.
Why Has the KTM 390 Duke Become More Expensive?
The price hike comes after Bajaj Auto decided to stop absorbing the impact of the higher GST rate applicable to motorcycles above 350cc.
- Previously, Bajaj had shielded customers from the 40 percent GST slab, keeping KTM 390 prices unchanged.
- However, with rising cost pressures, the company has now passed on the tax burden to buyers.
- This move brings the 390 Duke in line with competitors, many of whom had already revised prices earlier.
Price Gap with KTM 250 Duke Widens
With the latest revision, the KTM 390 Duke now costs Rs 1.22 lakh more than the 250 Duke, making it a more premium proposition than before. This could influence buyers who were considering stepping up from the smaller Duke.
What About Other KTM 390 Models?
While only the Duke has received the price hike so far:
- Models like the RC 390 and 390 Enduro are also expected to see similar increases soon.
- KTM has not officially confirmed timelines, but a revision across the 390 lineup appears imminent.
Key Specifications of KTM 390 Duke
- Engine: 399cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled
- Power: 45hp
- Torque: 39Nm
- Brakes: Disc brakes with Supermoto ABS
- Lighting: Full LED setup
- Features: Ride-by-wire, traction control, TFT display, quickshifter
The bike continues to offer strong performance and premium features, which justify its positioning despite the price hike.
Sub-350cc KTM Duke in the Works
Interestingly, Bajaj and KTM are working on a new sub-350cc Duke:
- The engine will likely be derived from the existing 399cc unit but downsized to fall under the 350cc threshold.
- This would allow it to attract a lower 18 percent GST, making it more affordable.
- A similar strategy has already been used for the Triumph 400 range.
What This Means for Buyers
The higher pricing may push some buyers to:
- Consider the upcoming smaller-capacity Duke
- Explore alternatives in the segment
- Or justify the premium for the 390 Duke’s performance and features
KTM is expected to sell both versions alongside each other initially, giving buyers more choice across price points.
