Kia is set to introduce the Syros, a compact SUV, to its Indian lineup on December 19. Positioned as a more premium alternative to the Sonet, the Syros offers a similar sub-4-metre footprint but packs a host of new features. Official pricing will be revealed in January during its showcase at the Bharat Mobility Expo.
Exterior Highlights
The Kia Syros stands out with its distinctive boxy, tallboy design, aimed at maximizing interior space. Key styling elements include:
- A clamshell bonnet featuring the updated 2D Kia logo.
- Vertically stacked LED headlamps paired with sleek Daytime Running Lights (DRLs).
- Generous black cladding across the bumpers and wheel arches, giving it a rugged appeal.
- A fresh alloy wheel design, likely up to 17 inches on higher trims.
- Eye-catching design cues like a unique break in the window line at the B-pillar, a sharp kink on the rear quarter glass, flush-fitting door handles, and L-shaped high-mounted tail lamps.
Interior and Features
Kia promises a “lounge-like” cabin experience with futuristic features and an innovative seating arrangement. Notably, the Syros is designed to offer more rear seat space than both the Sonet and even the larger Seltos. Premium touches include reclining rear seats, a rarity in this segment apart from the Hyundai Venue.
Key interior highlights include:
- A 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen on top trims.
- A fully digital instrument cluster.
- A two-spoke steering wheel with integrated controls for infotainment and terrain modes.
- Terrain modes like Mud, Sand, and Snow/Wet.
- Advanced safety features with an ADAS suite.
- Premium conveniences such as a wireless charger, USB-C ports, a panoramic sunroof, front parking sensors, and more.
Engine Options and Pricing
The Syros will feature Kia’s tried-and-tested powertrains:
- A 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine delivering 120hp and 172Nm.
- A 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 116hp and 250Nm.
Both engines will offer manual and automatic transmission options. Unlike the Sonet, the Syros will not have the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, emphasizing its upscale positioning.
In terms of pricing, the Syros is expected to slot above the Sonet, with an estimated starting price of around ₹10 lakh, potentially reaching ₹15 lakh for top-end variants. While this might overlap with certain trims of the Kia Seltos, the Syros is likely to attract buyers seeking a compact, feature-packed SUV with a premium edge.
Stay tuned for the official launch as Kia prepares to redefine the compact SUV segment with the Syros.
