The 2024 Kawasaki ZX-6R, which first grabbed attention at the 2023 India Bike Week, has been officially launched in India with a price tag of Rs 11.09 lakh. This marks a Rs 60,000 increase over its predecessor, largely attributed to adjustments made for the BS6 emissions norms.
This latest iteration of the ZX-6R embodies more of an evolutionary step rather than a complete overhaul. The most notable aesthetic update is its front end, which now sports redesigned LED headlights, aligning it more closely with the look of the current-generation ZX-10R. In a significant shift from its previous model’s digi-analogue dashboard, the 2024 version introduces a modern TFT dash, now a common feature across many Kawasaki motorcycles.
The ZX-6R broadens its appeal with the addition of four riding modes: Sport, Road, Rain, and a customizable Rider mode. Each mode offers preset configurations for power delivery and traction control, with the Rider mode allowing for personalized settings. The bike retains its quickshifter from the previous model, but given the continued use of a cable-actuated throttle, it’s likely limited to upshifts only.
Under the hood, the 636cc, liquid-cooled, inline-four engine of the ZX-6R delivers a peak power of 129hp at 13,000rpm and 69Nm of torque at 11,000rpm. These figures represent a slight decrease from the BS4 model, with a reduction of 1hp and 1.8Nm. Additionally, the bike’s weight has seen a marginal increase, now tipping the scales at 198kg, 2 kilos heavier than before.
While the main frame, subframe, suspension, and braking components remain largely unchanged, the 2024 ZX-6R switches to Pirelli Diablo Rosso 4 tires, moving away from the previous Bridgestone S22 tires.
In terms of market positioning and competition, the Kawasaki ZX-6R at Rs 11.09 lakh finds its closest rival in the Rs 11.81 lakh Street Triple RS, matching closely in price, capabilities, and performance. Within Kawasaki’s own range, the ZX-6R sits comfortably between the Z900, priced at Rs 9.29 lakh, and the Ninja 1000 SX, which comes in at Rs 12.20 lakh. The motorcycle is available in two color schemes: the iconic Kawasaki green and a more subdued black and green option, offering choices for different style preferences.
