Hyundai Tucson Achieves 5-Star Safety Rating in Bharat NCAP Crash Tests

Hyundai Tucson Achieves 5-Star Safety Rating in Bharat NCAP Crash Tests

The Hyundai Tucson has secured a coveted 5-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) crash tests, excelling in both adult and child occupant protection categories. This marks a significant milestone as the Tucson becomes the first Hyundai model to be evaluated under BNCAP, joining other highly-rated SUVs from Mahindra and Tata.

The tested model was the India-made, top-spec 2.0-litre petrol-AT Signature variant, built for the domestic market. Notably, the rating applies to the current-generation Tucson sold in India, not the facelifted version available internationally.

Safety Features and Compliance

The Hyundai Tucson comes equipped with a robust set of safety features, including:

Additionally, the Tucson boasts advanced safety technologies such as hill-hold control, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), parking sensors with a rearview camera, and Level 2 ADAS for enhanced driver assistance.

Adult Occupant Protection: Near-Perfect Performance

The Tucson achieved an impressive 30.84 out of 32 points in Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), ranking among the top three models tested under BNCAP.

While the report highlighted excellent protection for the driver’s and passenger’s head and neck, it noted “adequate” protection for the driver’s chest and feet. However, BNCAP did not specify whether the body shell and footwell area were stable under impact or capable of withstanding additional load.

Child Occupant Protection: Solid Scores

In Child Occupant Protection, the Tucson scored 41 out of 49 points, with full marks in:

It secured 5 out of 13 points in the vehicle assessment test. Both child dummies (18 months and 3 years old) were tested in rearward-facing child seats using ISOFIX anchorages and a support leg. However, BNCAP’s reporting on child dummy protection lacks the detailed analysis seen in Global NCAP assessments.

Price and Market Presence

The Hyundai Tucson is currently priced between ₹29.02 lakh and ₹35.94 lakh (ex-showroom). Its excellent safety performance, combined with premium features and advanced driver assistance systems, cements its position as a leading choice for safety-conscious buyers in the premium SUV segment.
