Hyundai Ioniq 9 Debuts in India at Auto Expo 2025

Hyundai has unveiled the Ioniq 9 electric SUV for the first time in India at the Auto Expo 2025 in New Delhi. Positioned as the flagship of Hyundai’s electric vehicle lineup, the three-row SUV joins the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 in the company’s portfolio of born-electric models.

Hyundai’s Largest Electric SUV

Built on Hyundai’s modular E-GMP platform, the Ioniq 9 shares its underpinnings with the Kia EV6, Kia EV9, Ioniq 5, and Ioniq 6. Measuring 5,060mm in length, it surpasses the Kia EV9 by 45mm, making it Hyundai’s largest electric SUV to date. Despite its size, the Ioniq 9 features a streamlined design, blending a rounded front end with an upright tailgate for a balanced aesthetic.

Notable design elements include Parametric Pixel LED headlights, now slimmer than those on the Ioniq 5, and a bold rear with combination tail-lights. The SUV comes equipped with 19-inch wheels as standard and flared wheel arches for added muscle. Customers can choose from 16 exterior colors and seven interior themes to personalize their vehicle.

Flexible Seating and Luxurious Features

The Ioniq 9 offers 6- and 7-seater configurations, with features designed for maximum comfort and versatility. The first two rows boast massaging seats, while the second row can swivel to face the third row when stationary. A panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, and roof-mounted air vents further enhance the cabin experience.

At the heart of the dashboard is a panoramic curved display, combining a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a 12-inch digital instrument cluster. Other premium amenities include multi-zone climate control, 100W USB-C ports in all three rows, and an 8-speaker sound system. The dashboard design integrates concealed AC vents and a sleek control band for HVAC settings, with an open center console offering ample storage.

Battery and Powertrain Options

The Ioniq 9 is equipped with a 110.3 kWh battery, offering a WLTP range of up to 620km. It supports 350kW fast charging, enabling a 10-80% charge in just 24 minutes, and features both 400V and 800V charging capabilities. Its vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology allows users to power external devices from the car’s battery.

The SUV is available in two variants: Long Range (LR) and Performance. The LR version features a rear-wheel-drive configuration producing 218hp and 350Nm, with an all-wheel-drive option adding a 95hp motor to the front axle. The Performance model, with dual 218hp motors on both axles, delivers 5.2-second 0-100kph acceleration and a 200kph top speed. Advanced features like dynamic torque vectoring, lateral wind stability control, and an Auto Terrain Mode ensure confident handling across diverse driving conditions.

India Launch Prospects

For now, the Ioniq 9 serves as a showcase model in India, with no confirmed plans for its launch. Hyundai’s sibling brand Kia has already introduced the EV9 to the Indian market, making it unlikely that the Ioniq 9 will follow suit in the near future.

Hyundai also unveiled the Creta Electric, priced at ₹17.99 lakh, alongside the Staria MPV and Creta 1.0 turbo-petrol at the Auto Expo 2025, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and market diversity.
