Hyundai Exter SUV Launched

Hyundai Exter SUV Launched

The Hyundai Exter is the smallest and most affordable SUV launched by Hyundai in the Indian market. It is based on the same platform as the Grand i10 Nios and Aura and is available in five trims: EX, S, SX, SX(O), and SX(O) Connect. The Exter offers both petrol and CNG fuel options.

Exterior Design

The Hyundai Exter follows Hyundai’s parametric design language, featuring textured detailing on the C-pillar and tail-gate garnish. The SUV showcases SUV styling cues with boxy proportions, an upright nose, thick body cladding, prominent front and rear faux skid plates, and roof rails.

The higher-spec trims come with 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and are available in dual-tone color options. Hyundai offers six solid colors, three dual-tone color options, and three interior color options.

Dimensions

– Length: 3,815mm
– Width: 1,710mm
– Height: 1,631mm
– Wheelbase: 2,450mm
– Ground Clearance: 185mm

Interior

The interior of the Hyundai Exter features a black color scheme, with the dashboard design carried over from the Nios and Aura. It includes a fully digital instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch MID, similar to more expensive Hyundai models like the i20 and Verna.

The patterned effect on the dashboard, door pads, and around the gear lever has also been carried over. Higher variants offer semi-leatherette seat upholstery finished in dual-tone black and olive-green shades. However, the Exter lacks an armrest for the rear seats.

Features

The Hyundai Exter boasts several noteworthy features, including segment-first offerings such as a single-pane sunroof and a factory-fitted dashcam with dual cameras (front and rear). Other features include automatic projector headlamps, keyless entry and go, an 8-inch touchscreen, automatic climate control, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless charging, in-built navigation, connected car tech, voice-activated commands in multiple languages, and over-the-air (OTA) updates.

In terms of safety, the Exter comes with six airbags, ESC, hill assist control, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and camera, three-point seatbelts and seatbelt reminders for all seats, and ISOFIX anchorages. These safety features are standard on the SX, SX(O), and SX(O) Connect trims, but can also be added as optional extras on the lower-spec E and S trims.

Powertrain and Fuel Economy

The Hyundai Exter is powered by a 1.2-liter, naturally aspirated, four-cylinder petrol engine shared with other Hyundai models such as the Nios, i20, and Venue. It generates 83hp and 114Nm of peak torque. Gearbox options include a 5-speed manual or a 5-speed AMT. In the CNG variant, the engine produces 69hp and 95.2Nm and is paired only with a manual gearbox.

The Exter offers a fuel economy rating of 19.4kpl for the manual and 19.2kpl for the AMT variants. The factory-fitted CNG option provides a significantly higher fuel economy of 27.10kpl.

Price and Rivals

The Hyundai Exter’s introductory prices in India range from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). The Exter competes directly with the Tata Punch, Citroen C3, and Maruti Suzuki Ignis. It also faces competition from lower variants of the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger.
