Hyundai Confirms 8 Hybrid Models for India by 2030

Hyundai Motor India has officially announced that it will introduce eight hybrid vehicles in the country by FY2030, marking a major step in the brand’s long-term electrification roadmap. This confirmation follows Hyundai’s earlier declaration in April 2024 about bringing hybrid technology to India — but this time, the carmaker has revealed the exact number of models planned.

8 Hybrids Part of Hyundai’s 26-Model Expansion

The Korean carmaker detailed its strategy during the 2025 Investor Day, revealing that out of the 26 new models slated for India by 2030, eight will feature hybrid powertrains. These will account for around 16 percent of Hyundai’s overall portfolio and play a crucial role in achieving the company’s target of a 52 percent “eco-friendly” model mix by the end of the decade.

CAFE 3 Regulations Drive Hybrid Push

A significant motivator behind Hyundai’s strong hybrid focus is the upcoming Corporate Average Fuel Efficiency (CAFE) 3 regulations, set to take effect from April 1, 2027. The proposed framework introduces a credit-based system that encourages manufacturers to sell cleaner vehicles.
Under this system, EVs, hybrids, and flex-fuel vehicles receive a multiplier credit — meaning one sale counts as more than one vehicle in emissions compliance calculations. Strong hybrids count twice, while plug-in and flex-fuel hybrids count as 2.5 units each. This effectively helps brands offset the penalties incurred by their high-emission ICE models.

New 1.2-Litre Turbo Engine to Power Mass-Market Hybrids

To make hybrids accessible, Hyundai is developing a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine engineered for strong-hybrid integration. This motor is expected to serve as the foundation for Hyundai’s upcoming mass-market hybrid vehicles, balancing performance, efficiency, and affordability.

Bayon Could Lead Hyundai’s Hybrid Charge

Hyundai’s compact crossover Bayon is likely to be the first hybrid model for India, debuting as early as next year. The hybrid-ready 1.2-litre turbo engine is expected to make its debut here, before being extended to popular models like the i20 and Venue, ensuring a widespread hybrid presence across Hyundai’s portfolio.

Creta, Alcazar Successor, and Palisade in Line for Hybrids

The next-generation Creta, scheduled to launch around 2027, will also feature a hybrid variant. Alongside it, Hyundai is said to be working on an all-new SUV positioned between the Alcazar and Tucson, likely arriving the same year with a 1.5-litre petrol-hybrid setup.

At the premium end, Hyundai will introduce the Palisade Hybrid as its flagship model for India. Expected to go on sale in 2027, it will be powered by a 2.5-litre turbo-petrol hybrid engine producing 334hp, representing Hyundai’s next-generation hybrid technology for larger vehicles.

A Broader, Greener Line-Up Ahead

With this aggressive hybrid rollout, Hyundai is set to cover everything from entry-level hatchbacks to full-size SUVs under its hybrid umbrella. The initiative not only strengthens Hyundai’s sustainability credentials but also prepares it for India’s evolving emission norms and growing consumer demand for fuel-efficient alternatives.
