Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) airplane manufacturer The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has given the ePlane Company design organization approval (DOA). So, ePlane is the first Indian company to get this approval. This means that electric air taxis that carry people and goods will be a fact by 2024.
The DOA is the first step in getting an aircraft certified, and it makes it possible for ePlane to start making its e200 eVTOL aircraft for sale to the public. The e200 taxi is a guided vehicle that takes off like a drone and flies like a plane. It is a two-seater aircraft that is made to work in cities. It can go 200 km on a single charge and can stop at several places.
The ePlane Company’s founder and CEO, Satyanarayanan Chakravarthy, said that this approval gives them permission to finish designing the e200 and proves that the design process works. “Type certification is the next step, and then we’ll go through different levels of design reviews, prototyping, and flight tests before getting production approvals,” he says. “All of this could happen by the end of the year, if things go well,” he says.
ePlane has also recently done successful flying tests of its e50 product, which is an eVTOL drone. The DOA for the e200 shows that ePlane can meet the strict standards set by the ministry of civil aviation. This means that the company’s flying electric cars can take to the air.
