Ducati has officially introduced its first-ever production motocross motorcycle, the Ducati Desmo450 MX, in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs 17.24 lakh. The launch comes roughly a year after the model made its global debut and marks Ducati’s entry into the dedicated motocross segment.
The Desmo450 MX sits at the premium end of the motocross category and brings several advanced technologies rarely seen on dirt bikes, reinforcing Ducati’s performance-focused approach.
Engine and performance
At the heart of the Desmo450 MX is an all-new 449.6cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that uses Ducati’s trademark Desmodromic valve system. This motor produces 63.5hp and 53.5Nm of torque, with a high rev limit of 11,900rpm, making it one of the most powerful engines in the motocross class.
The engine is designed to deliver strong mid-range performance while maintaining high-revving characteristics, which are crucial for competitive motocross racing.
Lightweight chassis and suspension
The Desmo450 MX is built around a lightweight aluminium perimeter frame designed to minimise weld points, improving rigidity while keeping weight low. As a result, the motorcycle tips the scales at just 104.8kg (wet, without fuel).
Suspension duties are handled by fully adjustable Showa components, offering 310mm of front travel and 301mm at the rear, enabling the bike to tackle demanding motocross tracks with ease. Braking hardware comes from Brembo, ensuring strong stopping power in off-road conditions.

One of the highlights of the Desmo450 MX is its comprehensive electronics package, something rarely seen in motocross machines.

Pure race machine, not road legal
The Desmo450 MX is built strictly for motocross competition. As a result, it does not feature headlights, indicators, or mirrors, and it cannot be registered for road use.
Like most race-spec dirt bikes, it also requires frequent maintenance:

Rivals in India
The Desmo450 MX becomes one of the very few European motocross motorcycles officially sold in India. Its primary competitor is the KTM 450 SX-F, currently priced at Rs 10.25 lakh, although its price is expected to change following the new GST structure.
Another rival in the segment is the Kawasaki KX450, which is listed in India at Rs 9.92 lakh.
While the Ducati commands a significantly higher price, it stands out with its Desmodromic engine technology and advanced electronics, features rarely found in the motocross segment.
