Citroen Aircross Achieves 5-Star Safety Rating in Bharat NCAP Tests

Citroen’s Aircross SUV has secured a strong result in the latest round of Bharat NCAP crash tests, with the 5-seat version earning a full 5-star rating for adult occupant protection and a 4-star rating for child occupant protection.

Crash Test Performance

The Aircross scored 27.05 points out of 32 in adult occupant protection (AOP). In the frontal offset test, it recorded 11.05/16, while the side impact test returned a perfect 16/16. The SUV was also rated acceptable in the side pole impact evaluation. According to Bharat NCAP, the dummies representing the driver and front passenger showed marginal to adequate protection for the chest, legs, and pelvic regions.

When it comes to child safety, the SUV scored 40/49 in child occupant protection (COP). The Aircross achieved full marks in both the dynamic crash test (24/24) and the child restraint system installation assessment (12/12). However, it lost points in the vehicle-based assessment, securing just 4/13. This kept its overall child safety rating at 4 stars.

Comparison with Citroen Basalt

The Aircross becomes the second Citroen model to undergo Bharat NCAP testing, following the recently tested Basalt. Notably, the Aircross scored 0.86 points higher than the Basalt in AOP, which helped it cross the threshold for a 5-star adult safety rating. In child safety, too, the Aircross outperformed the Basalt by 4.1 points (40 vs 35.9), though both models remain in the 4-star category for COP.

Safety Equipment and Variants

Safety features are well covered across all Aircross variants. As standard, the SUV is equipped with:

The Aircross is available in 5- and 7-seat configurations, although Bharat NCAP’s rating applies only to the 5-seat models. Customers can choose between an 84hp, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol and a 110hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. Prices currently range from ₹8.32 lakh to ₹13.63 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

Verdict

With this result, Citroen has strengthened its safety credentials in India. The Aircross not only joins the growing list of 5-star-rated cars under Bharat NCAP, but also establishes itself as the brand’s safest offering yet, edging ahead of the Basalt in both adult and child protection scores.
