BYD Denza N9 and Bao 3 Designs Patented in India Ahead of Major Expo

BYD, the prominent Chinese automaker, is expanding its footprint in India by registering design patents for its latest vehicles. Recent filings include the Bao 3 electric SUV in September and the Denza N9 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in October. These developments come ahead of BYD’s confirmed participation in the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January 2025. While official announcements about showcasing these models at the event are awaited, their potential inclusion has generated excitement among automotive enthusiasts.

BYD Denza N9: A Luxury Hybrid with Cutting-Edge Power

Denza, BYD’s luxury new energy vehicle (NEV) subsidiary, is introducing the N9, a premium PHEV designed to rival high-end SUVs. With a substantial 3.1-metre wheelbase and a total length of 5.2 metres, the Denza N9 stands in the same league as the Mercedes GLS.

Under the hood, the N9 combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine producing 206 hp with an advanced electric drivetrain. Together, this hybrid setup delivers an impressive 924 hp through a front-axle motor and two rear motors. Its 47 kWh battery provides a 165 km range in electric-only mode. For all-electric enthusiasts, there’s a version with a 965 hp output using a similar three-motor configuration.

BYD Bao 3: Rugged Meets Electric Efficiency

The Bao 3, developed by BYD’s off-road-focused Fangchengbao division, is a robust electric SUV inspired by the Super 3 concept. Measuring 4.6 metres, it positions itself above the Atto 3 in BYD’s lineup. Equipped with a front motor producing 149 hp and a rear motor delivering 299 hp, the Bao 3 simulates a four-wheel drive system, achieving a 0-100 kph time of 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 201 kph. Notably, a patent for a variant with a roof-mounted carrier was also filed, suggesting versatility for adventure enthusiasts.

What to Expect at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo

BYD is set to showcase its innovative electric and new energy vehicles at the upcoming expo, but whether the Denza N9 and Bao 3 will make an appearance remains uncertain. Their potential unveiling could signal BYD’s intent to strengthen its position in the Indian market. Stay tuned for updates on BYD’s showcase as the event draws closer.
