BMW M 1000 R launched in India at Rs 33.50 lakh

BMW M 1000 R launched

BMW Motorrad has launched the new BMW M 1000 R in India at an ex-showroom price of Rs 33.50 lakh. The high-performance naked motorcycle is the M division’s extreme version of the S 1000 R, bringing race-derived technology, sharper styling and track-focused electronics to the roadster segment.

Positioned as BMW’s most aggressive naked motorcycle, the M 1000 R produces 210hp and 113Nm, can accelerate from 0–100kph in 3.2 seconds, and reaches a claimed top speed of 280kph. Interestingly, it is priced Rs 1.12 lakh higher than the Ducati Streetfighter V4 S, which remains its closest rival in the segment.

Engine and performance

The M 1000 R is powered by a 999cc inline-four engine derived from the BMW S 1000 RR, tuned for explosive performance.

Key engine specifications include:

While peak power is 2hp lower than the previous version, BMW says the power arrives 750rpm earlier, improving acceleration and responsiveness.

The engine also features BMW’s ShiftCam variable valve timing technology, which optimises torque delivery at lower revs while maintaining strong top-end performance.

Aerodynamics and design

The updated M 1000 R now adopts a front design inspired by the M 1000 RR, replacing the earlier single vertical headlamp that divided opinions.

The new styling includes:

BMW claims the aerodynamic winglets generate around 11kg of downforce at 220kph, helping keep the front wheel planted during hard acceleration and high-speed riding.

Apart from the redesigned front end and minor refinements, the motorcycle retains much of its mechanical architecture from the previous model.

Electronics and rider aids

The BMW M 1000 R is equipped with a comprehensive electronics package derived from BMW’s superbike lineup, accessible through a 6.5-inch TFT display.

Key electronic features include:

Riders can fine-tune various parameters such as traction, engine braking and power delivery to match their riding style or track conditions.

M Competition Package

BMW also offers an optional M Competition Package, which adds several premium performance and cosmetic upgrades.

Highlights include:

These upgrades are designed to reduce weight and improve track performance.

Colours available

The BMW M 1000 R is offered in three colour options:

Price and rivals

With a price tag of Rs 33.50 lakh (ex-showroom, India), the BMW M 1000 R sits at the very top of the naked superbike category. Its primary competitor remains the Ducati Streetfighter V4 S, which offers similar performance and advanced electronics but at a slightly lower price.
