Bharat NCAP to Unveil New Car Crash-Test Results

Bharat NCAP (BNCAP) is gearing up to unveil fresh crash-test results this week, nearly half a year after its initial announcement. Teasing the imminent release on its social media platforms, the road safety organization is set to disclose reports for a new batch of tested models, encompassing several mainstream car and SUV brands.

Sources close to the matter, as reported by our affiliate, Autocar Professional, indicate that the upcoming results will encompass a variety of models, with expectations running high. Rahul Bharti, Maruti Suzuki’s Head of Corporate Affairs, hinted during a recent earnings call that the company had submitted three models to BNCAP, expressing confidence in their anticipated “top ratings.”

The delay of six months between BNCAP’s previous announcement and the upcoming one can be attributed to several factors. Notably, vehicles like the Maruti Baleno, Grand Vitara, and Brezza were delivered for testing in January 2024, subsequently passing tests conducted by esteemed bodies such as the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and the Central Road Transport Institute by March of the same year.

However, the timing coincided with the implementation of the model code of conduct during general elections, halting any new test announcements. Recognizing the potential loss of momentum, government authorities advised manufacturers not to postpone result announcements until the code of conduct’s conclusion on June 4.

This strategic move ensures that the valuable safety assessments conducted by BNCAP continue to inform and empower consumers while upholding transparency within the automotive industry.
