Bajaj Auto has expanded its electric two-wheeler portfolio with the launch of the Bajaj Chetak C2501 in India. Priced at Rs 91,399 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru), the new C2501 becomes the most affordable model in the Chetak range and is aimed squarely at urban commuters looking for a reliable, lightweight and cost-effective electric scooter.
Positioned below the existing Chetak variants, the C2501 focuses on everyday usability, ease of riding and lower ownership costs, while retaining the premium build quality the Chetak nameplate is known for.
Battery, Range and Performance
The Bajaj Chetak C2501 is powered by a 2.5kWh floorboard-mounted battery, which delivers a claimed range of 113km on a single charge. Charging is handled by a 750W off-board charger, with Bajaj claiming a 0–100 percent charge time of 3 hours and 45 minutes.
Unlike other Chetak models that use a mid-mounted motor, the C2501 features a hub-mounted motor—a first for the Chetak line-up. The motor produces 1.8kW of continuous power and 2.2kW at peak, enabling a claimed top speed of 55kph. This puts it in the same performance bracket as the Honda QC1, making it ideal for city commuting rather than highway use.
Chassis, Suspension and Brakes
To keep weight and costs in check, Bajaj has made several mechanical changes to the C2501. It rides on a telescopic front fork and twin rear shock absorbers, instead of the leading-link front suspension and monoshock setup seen on higher-spec Chetak models.
Braking duties are handled by a front disc brake, ensuring adequate stopping power, while the rear uses a drum setup. At just 108kg kerb weight, the C2501 is among the lightest mainstream electric scooters currently on sale in India. The 763mm seat height further enhances accessibility for riders of all sizes.
Design and Colours
While the overall silhouette is unmistakably Chetak, the C2501 looks noticeably slimmer and more compact than its larger siblings. It gets a new round LED headlamp, repositioned front indicators, and a fresh rear design with a single integrated tail-lamp that also houses the turn indicators.
The scooter also features practical premium touches such as flush-fitting pillion footpegs and a parking brake lock clasp. To appeal to a wide audience, Bajaj is offering the C2501 in six colour options: green, white, black, grey, red and yellow.
Features and Practicality
Despite being the most affordable Chetak yet, the C2501 comes well equipped. Highlights include:
-
Reverse LCD instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity
-
Call alerts and music control
-
Hill-hold assist
-
Eco and Sport riding modes
-
Reverse assist function
-
USB charging port
-
Front apron storage cubby
-
25-litre underseat storage, enough for daily essentials
Bajaj also offers a 3-year / 50,000km warranty, adding to the scooter’s value proposition.
Bajaj Chetak C2501 Price and Rivals
At Rs 91,399 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru), the Bajaj Chetak C2501 undercuts most established electric scooters from legacy manufacturers. Its key rivals in the segment include the TVS iQube 2.2, priced at around Rs 1.03 lakh, and the Vida VX2 Go, which retails at approximately Rs 94,740.
Verdict
With the launch of the Chetak C2501, Bajaj has made the Chetak brand significantly more accessible. By prioritising light weight, practical features and a competitive price, the C2501 positions itself as a strong option for first-time EV buyers and city commuters who want a trusted brand without stretching their budget.
